Definition of input device and output device

Input Device

In the first place talk about input devices, which as the name implies, are used to enter data (information) to the computer for processing. Data is read from the input devices and stored in the central or internal memory.

Input devices convert the information into electrical signals that are stored in the main memory. Typical input devices are keyboards, others are light pens, joysticks (joystick), CD-ROM, compact disc (CD), etc. Today it is very common to use a user input device called an electronic mouse pointer moves on a screen that facilitates the user-machine interaction.

Secondly we have to output devices, which can represent the results (output) data processing. The typical output device is the screen or monitor. Other output devices include printers (printing results on paper), plotters (plotters), speakers, among others, and then mentioned …

Output device

Typical output devices of computers with which users see the display information. Also receives the names of CRT screen or terminal. In computing distinguishes between the “monitor”, which includes all the equipment which produces the images, and the “screen”, which is just the area where we see the images. Thus, the output device is around the monitor, not just the screen.

All information (letters, graphics and colors) of a screen is made up of small dots called pixels (picture elements). The system unit sends the information to the monitor on the pixels that should be turned off (black color) and those that must be pinned (illuminated) with a certain color or intensity. So, point by point, the letters are formed and light areas of an image.

Early computers were monochrome monitors, ie unfolded single color, usually white or yellow. Moreover, the images had little resolution because each pixel was great. Currently these monitors can be seen in some airport terminals.

Newer monitors have no problem presenting graphs, lines and areas of color, besides letters of different types and sizes. For this reason they are also known as graphics monitors.
